Changing Lives – Really?

2013 has been one heck of a personal development year.  I have been to more seminars than I ever dreamt of having the time for, or even the patience for.  But it’s a good job I did!

Little did I know, there will be more to attend in the coming 12 months and that these would change my life completely.

Every presenter in every seminar went on and on about this one thing.  Some said “imagine the feeling when you change someone’s life for the better”, others said “your purpose could well be to impact others’ lives”.  The one that stuck with me was “I decided I wanted to impact millions of lives” – Tony Robbins.

When I thought about the impact I have on others’ lives, all I thought was “if I can change someone’s profit margin, using my social media company, I am impacting their life”.  That is about as far as it went.  I felt any other impact was beyond my skill set, regardless of my NLP training, things I have achieved, grand plans that I have made work etc.

As I had put on some weight due to the hip operation, I had already been looking out for products like the ones he mentioned.  So he gave me a taster – in an iced coffee.  Having hated everything I had already tried, now to try this in a drink I had never had before, I was convinced the experience will be one to forget soon after.  I was wrong.  The product was great, the chap was wonderfully passionate about his business and so we got talking some more.

To cut a long story short, the more I learnt about the business, the company behind it all, the more I wanted to learn.  I learnt that they are one of the few companies growing exponentially throughout the recession and have yet to expand globally.

I now had a different meaning to the phrase “impacting peoples lives” or “changing peoples lives”.  Suddenly my mother was calling me up with joy about her weight loss.  Others on the Challenge were doing the same.  I was in shock.  I had actually had a massive impact on someone else’s life!  I expected the impact on mine, but anyone else’s?…. I never thought that was possible on such a personal level.  You see, up till this point, I thought I was alone with my feelings about weight.  I thought I was the only one that had my weight ruling every aspect of my life.  I thought I was the only one that felt so uncomfortable presenting just because of the weight gain.  I knew it was a big deal to me, I just had not recognised how common this problem is.

In a later seminar, one by the company: ViSalus, hearing the phrase “changing people’s lives”, for the first time ever I could now relate to this. What was even better was meeting people that had started small and went on to impact thousands and thousands of lives in just a year!

I now know I can have a massive impact, and yes, on others lives – all by promoting this product called Body By Vi.  For the first time, I don’t believe changing peoples profit margins is enough to truly change their lives for the better.  Helping people get fit and healthy has a much bigger impact.  It just happens to be a bonus that one can make an enormous living out of it.

To top it all off, I have also learnt that this company, ViSalus is probably the most advanced a company is in terms of their social media activity.  Their entire marketing is based on social media and to a very advanced level.  I work with digital agencies in London who are always onto the latest developments, and yet, many of them can learn from ViSalus. To add to that, they train all of their promoters on social media skills – how many corporates do you know that do that?! For me this is very important, because it’s something I would always do and have done in my business. So now, I top up that training with advanced detailed social media training. What a life!

What is nice is that this is a business that is partners with what I call Marketing Heroes along with a product that does, truly…Change Peoples Lives.
